Choosing A Vet For Your Shar Pei Puppy

Your puppy's vet plays a big role in maintaining your puppies health.  Here's how to choose a vet for your shar pei puppy who needs a vet that understands their special needs.

Here are some things to think about:

• Ask friends to recommend a good vet and if you have friends with Shar Pei's especially ask them.
• Try to find a clinic that is near your home.
• Find out what the vet's office hours are to make sure they work with your schedule.
• How does the clinic handle an after hour emergency?
• What does the vet's clinic look like?  Is it nice and clean?  Smell fresh?  Have adequate equipment?
• How long has the vet been practicing?  Do they specialize in the shar pei puppy?
• Does the vet stay up to date with their knowledge?  Do they update their training by attending seminars?
• Can the vet's hospital clinic provide quick test results and do they have the equipment to do these tests?
• Vet's are well rounded and trained to help a variety of animals but some tend to specialize.  Is the shar pei one of their specialties?
• Does the vet know and understand the uniqueness of the shar pei and their characteristics?
• Do you feel comfortable talking with the vet?  Does he/she explain things well and are staff friendly and helpful?
• How long do you normally have to wait for a vet appointment?

Try to find a vet that is familiar with the quirks of this truly unique breed.  The shar pei aren't like other breeds!
